Welcome to our rescue centre

Who we are

We were formed in 1993 (our official title is Refugio de Los Animales – K9) with the purpose of being an organisation to protect, to the best of our ability, animals from cruelty, starvation and neglect, and to neuter and spay where possible to avoid over population. At the moment there is no official government funding and we rely solely on you, the public, for donations and sponsorships.

We are always looking for....

  • Katri, Finland

    Adopter

I was on vacation in winter 2020 and we went for a walk with K9 dogs. I had no intention of getting another dog, but I fell in love with one. I thought about it for a few days and decided to adopt him. The adoption process went well and I traveled home with little black Adú.

  • Antony, Scotland

    Volunteer Dog Walker

I have been volunteering at K9 for the past 8 years or so, in that time I have seen many dogs being admitted to the shelter in a poor condition both physically and emotionally. Over time these dogs, with a lot of love and care from both the staff and volunteers, recover to allow them to be adopted and lead happy lives with their new family. I always feel that it’s a privilege that I am trusted by both the K9 shelter and the dogs themselves to go for walks and share their time outside of the confines of the kennel.

  • Satu, Tenerife

    Adopter

After volunteering some years in K9, one day when I came, I saw one black beauty looking at me and his eyes telling me "take me home with you". It was 5 years ago and Oscar is the best dog ever, so sweet and intelligent. He loves to travel and be in the nature. He get's on well with my other dog and we are happy family.

Why Support

K9 Tenerife?

  • We are a long-established caring rescue centre

Formed in 1993, in South Tenerife, K9 Tenerife continues its dedicated animal rescue work today. We care for abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats, taking care of their health and wellbeing while they await re-homing to a loving home. We work closely with, and receive a great deal of support from, similar organisations across Tenerife and abroad.

  • We have a great team

We have a dedicated team of workers and volunteers. Roles vary greatly and include: kennel and cattery assistants; dog walkers; animal rescuers; shop assistants; and events organisers. We are always delighted to discuss options with potential volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please get in touch in any of the ways listed on our "Contact Us" page below.

  • We can't do it alone

K9 Tenerife, and our supporters, raise funds for the health and wellbeing of our dogs and cats in lots of ways. Including: sales from our second hand shop in Alcala; fundraising events; collection boxes in bars and cafes; and raising funds at local markets. If you would like to help, please get in touch with us in any of the ways listed on our "Contact Us" page below.
